Tips & Tricks for Beginners in Photography:
Rule of Thirds. This is literally old news, but following the rule of thirds will carefully balance the picture and enhance the impact of the scene.
Always shoot in RAW. It will take up most of your space, and you will probably need a lot of extra memory cards but once you’ll see the difference between JPEG and RAW, it’s worth it.
Understanding the White Balance. For you to be able to get the right exposure of colors, you will need to experiment a little bit about the white balance and the picture will change drastically.
Apertures. Larger apertures (e.g., f/2) means more light will be acquired + clearer photos.
Shutter speed. 30 seconds is good for night shots, city lights, or landscapes at dusk or dawn. It might take long, but the results are amazing. But of course, you’ll have to adjust the aperture, ISO, white balance and just experiment!
ISO. The higher your ISO is, the grainier your photo will be. The lower the ISO, (obviously), will produce the finest and grain-free photos.
Keep both eyes open. It will take practice, but once you close your other eye, your field of vision will be limited especially if you’re taking pictures of a moving crowd, a sports event or a wedding.
Some rules were meant to be broken.
Editing is essential. Photoshop or Lightroom, it doesn’t matter. Why? Because unfortunately, there’s no such thing as perfect camera. Sometimes, a little bit of adjustments on this and that is necessary.
Accessories. Expensive, I know. But the most important usually comes with the set if you’re going to buy a camera! A good camera bag, neck strap, LCD protector, tripod + remote, and lens cleaning kit.
